Music has always been a huge part of my life. I met my best friend because of our love of music and singing (we even started a little singing group called Emotionz in Junior High). There is so much you can learn through music. I've been singing since before I can remember and it's something I would love to pass on to our boys. Now that they are getting older, they dance and sing and I've got them into singing Karaoke with me too!
Music can teach your little one so much, here are few tips on how you can incorporate music into your toddler's learning.
Singing Karaoke with your Toddler
No one loves Karaoke more than me and my mama. We could stay up late singing all the classics from Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Gladys Knight. We are currently teaching the boys the alphabet and the concept that each letter makes up a word. I usually try and teach this concept by reading to the boys and pointing to each word I am saying, then spelling out certain words as I go.
Even when the boys are watching TV, I make sure the captions are always on so that they can see each word being said on screen.
YouTube has a millions Karaoke songs on their platform to chose from and of course we normally stick to the Disney songs like "Into the Unknown" from Frozen II or "How far I'll Go" from Moana. Kai especially loves seeing each word I sing light up on the screen and points to them as they go by. This is a really fun way to teach your kiddos sight words since songs are so much easier to remember.
Try singing Karaoke with your toddler and let me know how it goes!
Play Musical Instruments
I am currently learning how to play the guitar by watching videos and learning different cords. I love the tone of an acoustic guitar and how it makes a song feel so full. I've been singing and playing the guitar for my boys since they were born and they love strumming and "singing" along with me as I play.
Here is a video of my friend's husband playing a tune for the boys. They immediately sit down to listen and start rocking. Even if you can't play an instrument, things like shakers or a tamborine would work great for music time with your kiddos. It's fun to watch them really get into a song.
Making up simple dance movements to songs
Music not only teaches creativity but also can teach the basics like rhythm and counting. I started lifting up the boys' legs on certain parts of a song the boys love to dance too and now they do it together on their own at the same time. It's cool to watch them listening to the beat of the song and raise their legs in unison to the same part.
Music has an amazing way of connecting with people and it's such a great treasure to share with your kiddos. The upcoming theme this week is Music and we can't wait to show you all of our activities we will be doing. If you are looking for some kid musical instruments, we just ordered a 33 piece set from amazon. You can find the set here or by clicking the photo below.

Maybe I'll finally get the courage to sing for you all on my Instagram stories.
